Des chercheurs en sécurité ont découvert ce qu’ils pensent être la toute première attaque par ransomware ou rançongiciel ciblant les utilisateurs de Mac d’Apple. Cette menace est actuellement active sur Internet et se diffuse via un logiciel de téléchargement de fichiers Torrent.

Cette attaque a été détectée en toute fin de semaine dernière par des chercheurs de Palo Alto Networks. Ces derniers ont donc identifié un ransomware, "KeRanger", dissimulé au sein d’un client BitTorrent populaire sous OS X, Transmission.

Users of BitTorrent client app Transmission became the first reported victims of Mac ransomware this week. People who downloaded infected versions of the app also received "KeRanger" malware, 9to5Mac says, nefarious software that would encrypt a user's hard drive three days after being installed and demand payment to unlock the data.

Last month, security researcher Stefan Esser published details and proof-of-concept code of a zero-day vulnerability in OS X Yosemite that could allow a hacker to easily escalate their privileges, and take complete control over Mac computers.

Esser chose not to contact Apple about the DYLD_PRINT_TO_FILE vulnerability - which remains currently unpatched in OS X Yosemite, despite it curiously being fixed in the beta version of the next iteration of OS X, El Capitan.

Now, security firm Malwarebytes has discovered an in-the-wild attack exploiting the vulnerability, where root permission is gained on the computer without a password being needed.

No sooner had we reported that Microsoft will adopt a "rolling update" model for Windows 10...

...than we received notice of Apple's latest "rolling update" for its Safari browser.

What to do?

Simple: head to Apple Menu | App Store... | Updates and make sure you have the latest version of Safari.

To check your Safari version, run the browser and use Safari | About Safari, or open a Finder window and go to Applications| Safari.app.

Virus Bulletin 2015, Prague - Researcher Patrick Wardle says he "loves his Mac, but it's so easy to hack".

At the VB2015 conference in Prague earlier today, Wardle explained to members of the security community how he had uncovered a way to easily waltz past one of the key safeguards that Apple built into its OS X operating system to block unauthorised code, downloaded from the internet, from running.

Generally, Gatekeeper does a reasonable job.

If an app is developed by an unknown developer, or has been tampered with en route to your computer via a man-in-the-middle attack over an unencrypted HTTP connection, then Gatekeeper is supposed to spot it and block it.

Nach Angaben mehrerer Universitätsforscher sind das Sandboxing-System und die Schlüsselbundverwaltung von Apple nicht sicher. So soll es möglich sein, private Daten, Fotos und Passwörter zu klauen.

Forschern mehrerer Universitäten ist es gelungen, Sicherheitsmechanismen in Apple-Produkten zu umgehen. Sie entdeckten mehrere Lücken, über die sie von einer manipulierten App auf andere Anwendungen zugreifen konnten. Eigentlich sollte dies nicht möglich sein.

Nach ihren eigenen Aussagen informierten sie Apple über die Lücken. Der Hersteller, der im vergangenen Quartal 13,6 Milliarden Dollar Gewinn machte, forderte sie auf, mindestens sechs Monate zu warten, reagierte dann aber nicht mehr. Deswegen entschieden sie sich, ihre Erkenntnisse in einem Whitepaper (PDF) zu veröffentlichen.

Wer die jüngsten Updates für iOS und OS X noch nicht installiert hat, sollte das schnellstens tun. Denn in den Betriebssystemen von Apple verbirgt sich eine Sicherheitslücke, über die Angreifer jedes Apple-Gerät zum Absturz bringen können.
