KH000//Kopimashin, by Peter Sunde Kolmisoppi (2015) /// #mediaart #thepiratebay

The Kopimashin creates an endless amount of copies of a specific audio track (gnarls barkley’s crazy). The audio track is copied to /dev/null, a unix data pipe for avoiding permanent storage. The Kopimashins lcd display consists of three rows of information, the serial number of the mashin, amount of copies created and the dollar value it represents in losses for the record labels (Downtown Records / Warner Music), currently represented by USD1,25 per copied piece.

The goal of the kopimashin is to make the audio track the most copied in the world and while doing so bankrupting the record industry.

This project is part of the psk value series.

86mm x 54mm x 19mm. Series of 13.

Peer-to-peer, P2P, cinema, music, piracy, hacking, surveillance

The Pirate Cinema : TPC is based on a data interception software. It reveals, through a simple diversion, different aspects of exchange platforms, such as the global and multi-situated nature of Peer-to-Peer networks (P2P), the potential for viral transmission, and alternative social models. Its purpose is to make available for aesthetic exploration the pre-existing potentials of Peer-to-Peer architectures.

* [a] VIDEO INSTALLATION VERSION *
The video installation of TPC relies on an automated system that constantly downloads the most viewed torrents. The intercepted data is immediately projected onto a screen, after which it is discarded. Depending on the exhibition space, the installation involves one to five computers, each one monitoring specific categories of files. This allows the system to visualize fragmentary files received and sent all over the world.

* [b] LIVE PERFORMANCE VERSION *
The live performance of TPC relies on an automated system that downloads a selection of torrent files (movies, mp3) selected by the performer. This system is an instrument in itself, producing specific temporal and formal structures, from parameters defined by the performer. The performance lasts the amount of time required to download a group of files. The choice of the downloaded files may be related to the local or actual context. (Place, local cultural context, political, economic, etc.)

Nb: Downloading Torrents is not a linear process. Completion of a file is done in a disorderly manner, and according to an irregular rate. Which leads, in the context of this project to a rearrangement of the full temporal continuity of initial video and sounds.

Fake #PirateBay Lies to Press and Fakes User Uploads - #p2p

Fake #PirateBay Lies to Press and Fakes User Uploads - #p2p | Digital #MediaArt(s) Numérique(s) | Scoop.it

Following last week's raid on The Pirate Bay many sites appeared claiming to have brought the site back to life. While that was to be expected, the site that has gained the most traction is now deliberately lying to the press and faking user uploads to give the impression that leading uploaders support them.

The Pirate Bay was without doubt the most iconic BitTorrent site in history before it was abruptly shutdown last week following a raid on a Swedish datacenter.

Even today it seems strange talking about The Pirate Bay in the past tense. Many believe it’s simply a question of time before the site reappears but for others any amount of time is too long to wait. ...
