Belize Bird Rescue: Stork Storkers Club

Belize Bird Rescue: Stork Storkers Club | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Feelgood story to start the day.  The Belize Bird Rescue successfully captured and relocated the Jabiru stork that was on the runway at the Philip Goldson airport, causing problems for landing planes.  It was a concentrated effort, and was met with success.  Great work!

"Cue the Belize Wildlife Conservation Network (BWCN) response team (pause for ooo’s and aaah’s) We are ready to spring into action at a moments notice, just like Spiderman. So, armed with nets, gloves, cages, crates and blankets, plus numerous representatives from Belize Forest Department, Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic, ISIS, Belize Humane Society and Belize Audubon Society, we launched ourselves at Belize City."

Why wild animals do not make good pets

Why wild animals do not make good pets | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Dr. Isabelle Paquet-Durand from the Belize Wildlife Conservation Network has a public service announcement about why some animlas shouldn't be pets.  Raccoons certainly fall into that category.

"BWCN is working on establishing a Wildlife Hotline with the Forest Department to provide this and more advice to you on how to resolve human-wildlife conflicts over the phone. Stay tuned for this hotline to be announced later this year and until then you can find some information, and contacts for people to ask for more advice on the BWCN website www.wildlifebelize.com or find and join us on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/groups/66218877460/ . You can also call the Belize Forest Department at 822-1524."
