Two Ways to Quickly Create Transcripts of YouTube Videos | Free Technology for Teachers | ED262 mylineONLINE: Exceptionalities and Accessibilities | Scoop.it

About a week ago I hosted a webinar for an organization that hired me this summer and in the summer of 2018. The webinar was about improving the accessibility of online resources that we share with our students. One of the things that I covered in that webinar was how to improve the accessibility of YouTube videos. In addition to customizing the captions display I showed them how to quickly create transcripts for videos. There are t wo methods for this. Both methods are explained in the videos below.

Alt text is text that you can add to images and videos to describe what they are and or what they contain. Adding alt text can make your materials that you post online more accessible to more visitors.

Implementing Student Accessibility Strategies

Implementing Student Accessibility Strategies | ED262 mylineONLINE: Exceptionalities and Accessibilities | Scoop.it
I am proud that Saskatchewan Polytechnic, the institution I teach in, is committed to meeting the needs of its diverse student population. In particular, it has dedicated support to ensure equal access to students with disabilities. This support requires students to self-identify as having an intellectual, learning or mental/physical disability. For these students, and those that do not self-identify, I also have a responsibility that the online learning environment I design is accessible.

The shock has passed, the sadness comes and goes, and the stretchy waistband pants are becoming a mainstay. Your college or university is staying online for the rest of this academic year, as well as summer, and you wonder about fall 2020.

While the trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic persists, it may be time to settle into an educational environment that will be more online than previously imagined.

Warning: You will not get through the same amount of content during this pandemic. Please do not try.

Choosing the Right Adaptive Learning Technology

Choosing the Right Adaptive Learning Technology | ED262 mylineONLINE: Exceptionalities and Accessibilities | Scoop.it

An Adaptive Learning Program (ALP) is a computer-based educational system that allows teachers to modify the way they present materials based on the performance of individual students.

The history of ALPs is rooted in 1950s cognitive psychology and the 1970s artificial intelligence movement. A proven teaching method, ALPs are now used in varied environments to train and teach more effectively. For example, NASA uses ALPs for safety models and simulation training. They’ve also been used by the U.S. military, including the 2015 Army Learning Concept that educated and trained soldiers for asymmetric engagement. But ALP’s most significant potential to help the most people is likely in the educational field.
