OER: A Field Guide for Academic Librarians - Open Textbook Library

OER: A Field Guide for Academic Librarians - Open Textbook Library | Everything open | Scoop.it

We intend this book to act as a guide writ large for would-be champions of OER, that anyone—called to action by the example set by our chapter authors—might serve as guides themselves. The following chapters tap into the deep experience of practitioners who represent a meaningful cross section of higher education institutions in North America. It is our hope that the examples and discussions presented by our authors will facilitate connections among practitioners, foster the development of best practices for OER adoption and creation, and more importantly, lay a foundation for novel, educational excellence.

Openness and education: a beginner’s guide

Openness and education: a beginner’s guide | Everything open | Scoop.it
This post was written by Martin Weller.

One of the things we’ve noticed as a research team attending different conferences that deal with aspects of ‘Open Education’ is that people come into it from a wide range of backgrounds. It is also quite a broad term, with many different interpretations and perspectives. This can make it quite difficult for a new researcher to know where to start, or to come to common understanding when people have different starting points.

The policy applies to journal articles and conference proceedings with an ISSN accepted for publication after April 2016. The output must be deposited at least three months after acceptance. Embargo periods and exceptions apply where necessary. See below for more information.

Commonwealth of Learning - A Basic Guide to Open Educational Resources (OER)

Commonwealth of Learning - A Basic Guide to Open Educational Resources (OER) | Everything open | Scoop.it

This Guide comprises three sections. The first – a summary of the key issues – is presented in the form of a set of ‘Frequently Asked Questions’. Its purpose is to provide readers with a quick and user-friendly introduction to Open Educational Resources (OER) and some of the key issues to think about when exploring how to use OER most effectively.

The second section is a more comprehensive analysis of these issues, presented in the form of a traditional research paper. For those who have a deeper interest in OER, this section will assist with making the case for OER more substantively.

The third section is a set of appendices, containing more detailed information about specific areas of relevance to OER. These are aimed at people who are looking for substantive information regarding a specific area of interest.
