One of the "hidden" or frequently overlooked features of Google Documents is the built-in outline tool. The outline tool lets you create an outline that is hyperlinked to sections of your document. Any section that begins with header text or bolded font can be automatically added to the hyperlinked outline in your document. Watch the following video to see how this process is done.

About 60 percent of today’s college students are using their smartphones to study, and that is largely thanks to the wide variety of apps they can make use of.

College students are regularly using tools like Google Docs on their mobile devices because the cloud technology makes it just as easy to work on a smartphone as it is to use a computer.

Now, thanks to an update, a new Google Docs workflow will make it even easier for students and professors to use the cloud-based tool in their classes.

Draftback is a good web tool that allows you to playback the revision history of any Google Doc you can edit. You will be able to watch your edits roll out in a video player as if you are watching a movie. We have tried this extension a couple of times and it worked perfectly well. As a teacher, you can use Draftback to track students revision history to identify how much work and time they have put into their writing.

Like Apple and Microsoft, Google also wants a place in your classroom.

Google Apps for Education is a free suite of cloud-based tools created by Google to use in your classroom. You probably knew that part, and likely have a vague awareness of what’s available (Google Drive, Google Form, etc.) But Sylvia Duckworth has gone a step further, giving you an extended metaphor (a train), a graphic (with color), and a brief description of each “stop” of the Google Apps for Education train.

(If we wanted to over-read into the metaphor, we could even wonder if she’s using the momentum of the train as a criticism of Google’s business practices and their “railroading” of smaller app developers, but we’re crazy and Sylvia isn’t, so…)
