Ursula O'Reilly Traynor 's insight:
now  transferred to west end

The reviews are in and unsurprisingly this is the hottest ticket in London right now, especially for the West End transfer. Tickets for the Royal Court sold out as soon as they were released. You'd need to be quick to get one for the Gielgud Theatre run.

One year on and still very much missed.

The man lives on through his poetry.

IL archive Feb 2013: Sean Hughes / Life Becomes Noises @ the Tricycle, London | Irish Life | Scoop.it

Following an extensive tour and a critically acclaimed Edinburgh run, the feel good show of the year, Sean Hughes’s Life Becomes Noises comes to the Tricycle Theatre for four nights only. Don’t miss Sean Hughes at the top of his game!

From the moment the lights come up on Life Becomes Noises, it becomes apparent that this is going to be no ordinary comedy show. ‘Knowing exactly when to puncture any incipient melancholy or earnestness with an expertly crafted gag’ (The Daily Telegraph), Sean makes his triumphant return to the stage redefining his craft with a narrative that makes audience laugh or cry at the blink of an eye.

Sean has been dealing with his father’s death in a way that only Sean can. Here is a comedy performance from Sean like you’ve never seen before. This hilarious yet poignant tale is a beautiful insight into the lighter side of dying and getting older, going to places that comedy rarely goes, highlighting how ridiculous life is and how quickly it can be taken away.

This is London’s chance to see Sean’s ground-breaking show performed in its entirety for the first time.

‘It’s a sweet, moving and often very funny show’ The Observer

‘Hughes never forgets to keep the laughter flowing’ The Daily Telegraph

‘Master of satire and invention’ Evening Standard

Duke Special & Ulaid at The London Irish Centre

Duke Special & Ulaid at The London Irish Centre | Irish Life | Scoop.it

"When contemporary songwriting and traditional music meet, the results can be something to be treasured. Such is the case with the collaboration between folk supergroup, Ulaid, and singer-songwriter extraordinaire, Duke Special. The project draws on Duke Special's songwriting skills, from pre-rock'n'roll to modern acoustic pop. He injects drama and theatricality, bringing storytelling to the fore with meditative twists and turns amid the melodic architecture. Ulaid's mixture of skills in arrangement, interpretation, composition and performance lend a peculiarly folk-but-modern, urban-but-pastoral air to the whole. For a collaboration that may have seemed unlikely in theory, proves itself thoroughly in practice; when heard, it somehow seems inevitable. Simply put, not to be missed."

Ursula O'Reilly Traynor 's insight:
So gutted this is happening when I am in Malta!

Duke Special comes highly recommended. And playing here with Ulaid! Do not miss this!

The Road - A Story of Life and Death

"The latest film from acclaimed documentary-maker Marc Isaacs offers a fascinating and intimate insight into the lives of people who have come to London from afar and struggled to make the city their home.
Isaacs introduces a diverse number of characters who have made their way to London, from all over the world, in order to seek a better life. There's a young Irish woman who dreams of becoming a singer, who takes a job pulling pints in Cricklewood, serving the generations of Irish people who came over before her; a lonely Irish ex construction worker loosing his battle to booze; a man from Kashmir working in a hotel, trying to earn enough money so his wife can join him; an elderly Jewish woman who fled Vienna when Hitler was in power; and a glamorous retired German air stewardess living with her estranged husband.
Fused with wonderful moments of humour and equally heartbreaking moments where broken dreams are revealed, The Road: A Story of Life and Death is a study of immigration that manages to be highly affecting, whilst avoiding being polemical or didactic."

Ursula O'Reilly Traynor 's insight:
