Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It

Social Media Anxiety...Get Over It | Information Technology & Social Media News | Scoop.it

Social Media Anxiety
Got to love social media. First social media has to prove it matters and isn't just a game then people worry about "doing it wrong". Yes there are "wrong" ways to create social media content...remember when we all started sharing exactly what was happening in the moment? Don't do that anymore.

Next we had the quote stage and now we seem to be getting the idea of how to surf social media. Some still have anxiety about jumping in or doing the wrong thing.

The half-life a tweet is hours. Remember you are in an ocean of content, so surf don't try to hold, compress or rule it. Here is another anti-anxiety pill for SMM. Look around, I've yet to follow or RT someone so brilliant I shouldn't be allowed in the same social space (lol). Yes they are out there, but I may never find them :).

Social media is the great level. What you can SEE and FEEL fast is we all have the same obsessions, fears, strengths, weaknesses, doubts and frustrations. Social shows our humanity in all its glory and aspirations.

Here is the other issue. If you are an Internet marketer, and who isn't these days, then social media anxiety can HURT. Don't let your "Sistine Chapel" perfectionism stop you from making social media mud pies. M

How to Measure Content Marketing Success | Infographic

How to Measure Content Marketing Success | Infographic | Information Technology & Social Media News | Scoop.it

This infographic recommends three broad areas to evaluate when assessing content marketing success. With more than 90% of companies now doing some form of content marketing, the logical question is: how do you know if you’re doing it well?

In terms of “what” to measure, this infographic from Brandpoint recommends three broad areas to assess:

• Awareness (e.g., search engine rank for target keywords,  social metrics such as likes and followers);• Consideration (longer average visit duration, social shares); and• Conversion (increased conversion rate, growth in newsletter subscriptions).

In terms of “how” to measure success, CMOs utilizing a sophisticated web presence optimization framework for maximizing content marketing results will likely embrace tools for measuring competitive multi-channel marketing metrics—not just “are we making progress?” but also “how are we doing compared to our competitors?”

Save The World Marketing Is Here!

Embrace Save The World Marketing
In a social mobile and connected time for profit companies should learn emotional storytelling from nonprofits. Nonprofits should learn viral marketing and SEO from their for profit cousins.

Save The World Marketing is a "new altruism" that is sweeping across social media. Companies and brands that embrace Save The World marketing create an emotional connection with customers via authentic stories and social media.

Every enterprise is saving the world in some interesting way. Telling that story or finding partners who can help tell a company's "save the world" story should be a top priority for senior managers and small to medium sized businesses (SMBs).

Social Media Command Center Is In Your Future

First "social media command center" I saw was at Edelman (http://www.slideshare.net/EdelmanDigital/edelmans-social-intelligence-command-center-sicc ). The first person I heard mentions real time social arbitrage was David Meerman Scott.

David’s books including NewsJacking and New Rules of Marketing and PR are must reads since our slouch toward real time is picking up speed and momentum. Real Time will be where the social money is really made and you need a "command center" to parse real time ORM feeds (Online Reputation Management) into proactive connections and sales.

This is a great infographic about what your Social Media Command Center may look like in our not too distant Internet marketing future.

The Relativity Of Everything
Social media is the most relative of media. The more territory social media captures the more relative things become. Relative in the sense that it is impossible to really KNOW anything.

There are simply too many variables now. Patterns that seem so convincing may be worth a double down, but those patterns may have so many interconnections you are betting on a horse you may never see or fully understand.

This is NOT to say we can't trust or use our metrics as maps to help create greatness. It is to say that our zero sum habits, this OR that, need to be replaced with AND.

This AND That are impacting our metrics and Internet marketing. Great infographic that speaks to the value of a single social signal.

Not sure I agree with Tim. Social is social. The fact that Pharma is all wound up on itself is more a reflection of pharma than the way the web works. Google makes no distinction betrween pharma content and any other type. Pharma is the one who binds itself up in knots, but universal content and social marketing axioms still apply.
Tim Mustill's comment, July 30, 2013 8:48 AM
I agree the axioms apply Martin but sadly, due to the self -inflicted knots you refer to and regulation there are some aspects of B2C that are just not practical for prescription medicines. Thankfully the barriers are slowly coming down with more big pharma embracing at least some elements of social media.

Social Media Work Flow RESET

Social Media Work Flow RESET | Information Technology & Social Media News | Scoop.it

I think this Infographic has aged. If you follow its outline you risk talking to yourself about yourself, a social media No No. Here is how I would rest the ideal 50 social media work week (as if such a thing actually existed :):

8 Hours Curating
4 Hours Bogging (writing)

4 Hours Listening (checking Topsy and quantifying results)

4 Hours Conversations (curating comments, commenting on others)

4 Hours Research, Planning, Analytics

4 Contignecy & Emergencies

4 Movements (i.e. "super campaigns")

8 Hours OPEN

============

40 hours

I don't believe is schedule every minute of any social media outline. There must be larger blocks for responding, planning, analytics and tweaking. I also don't like "campaigns" as much as created temed movements.
